What is available?
Primary Health Tasmania has commissioned two organisations to provide primary healthcare services to people who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness and have difficulty accessing mainstream services.
Moreton Group Medical Services operates GP-led mobile medical clinics, and Launceston City Mission runs the nurse practitioner-led Mission Health Clinic - a drop-in service.
The clinics provide services including:
- routine health checks
- treatment of minor illnesses and injuries
- management of chronic health conditions (e.g. asthma, diabetes)
- some vaccinations
- prescriptions for some medicines
- referrals to other services
- preventive care and health advice.
Who is eligible?
These services are for vulnerable Tasmanians who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness and have difficulty accessing mainstream services.
How much does it cost?
These services are funded by the Australian Government. There is no cost to people using them.
Who can make a referral?
No formal referral is required – people can self-refer into these services.
People may also be connected to the services through health professionals or organisations, such as community services.
Where is it available?
Moreton Group Medical Services delivers services from regular mobile health clinics in the Greater Hobart area, Launceston, Burnie and Ulverstone.
Clinic times and locations are published on the website linked below. Appointments are needed for some clinics; they can be made through the community service providers that host the clinics. Contact details are in the online schedule.
Please note that Moreton Group Medical Services does not make appointments by phone. They must be made through partnering community services.
Launceston City Mission’s Mission Health Clinic is located at 99 Wellington Street in Launceston. The clinic is open Monday to Thursday. To see a member of the health team, drop in and register at reception.
