After hours support for health professionals

What is available?

This service provides Tasmanian health professionals with direct access to after hours telephone support from an on-call GP in Tasmania.

Service providers including nurses at residential aged care facilities and community hospitals, pharmacists, pathology providers, and domiciliary nursing and palliative care services can contact a GP Assist doctor if they need assistance or advice while caring for a patient during the after hours period.

This service is only available to health professionals. The general public can access after hours support via healthdirect Australia (1800 022 222). Through an arrangement unique to Tasmania, healthdirect triage nurses can put a Tasmanian caller through to a local on-call GP at GP Assist if they decide it is necessary (see After hours support for the community).
